The name of our State was changed from Orissa to Odisha for convenience in pronunciation for some IAS officers, said former BJD MP Tathagata Satpathy while addressing meritorious students during a function organised by Pandav Jena foundation at Jatni in Khordha district on Sunday.
“We have not changed the spelling of our State Odisha in Odia. However, the name was changed from Orissa to Odisha in English after 2013 as per the convenience in pronunciation for some IAS officers governing the State,” said Satpathy during his speech.
The former BJD leader also said that the quality of education has declined a lot in Odisha.
“The quality of primary and secondary education has been declining speedily in Odisha and there are many reasons behind it. There is a scarcity of teachers in the educational system. The qualification, patience, and motto required among the teachers are missing. Government encouragement is also lacking in the educational sector,” said Satpathy.
No comments from ruling BJD could be obtained over Satpathy's remark.
