In a shocking turn of events following the attempted self-immolation by a girl student of FM Autonomous College in Balasore, the victim's mother has come forward with serious allegations against the college authorities.
Speaking to the media after visiting her daughter, who is currently undergoing treatment in critical condition at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, she alleged that her daughter had been set on fire and mentally tortured over a prolonged period by the college's Principal, the Head of the Education Department (HOD), and others.
According to her, despite repeated complaints, no action was taken. Instead, the student was subjected to continuous harassment, ridicule, criticism, and even punishment by the faculty members. She claimed the relentless abuse ultimately pushed her daughter to take such an extreme step.
Demanding justice for her daughter, the grieving mother has called for capital punishment for those responsible, including the Principal and the HOD, holding them accountable for the inhumane treatment that allegedly led to this tragic incident.
This statement comes three days after the attempted self-immolation incident that has sparked outrage and demands for a thorough investigation into the functioning and accountability of the FM Autonomous College administration.

"Despite repeated complaints, no action was taken. Instead, she (the student) was subjected to continuous harassment, ridicule, criticism, and even punishment by all the staff of the college, including the Principal and the HOD. They often called the child and questioned her for hours. We had no knowledge of the incident. We only came to know about it after the incident occurred. They might have set my daughter on fire," said the victim's mother.
"If they had to ask something of the child, they must have called her father and other family members. Why were they often harassing the girl mentally? Why were they putting pressure on her to withdraw the case? I want justice for my child. The teachers should be hanged to death. Steps should be taken to cure my child," she added.
