Two unidentified miscreants allegedly executed a daring heist late on Tuesday night in Malkangiri district, stealing mobile phones valued at more than Rs 1.5 Crore. The burglary occurred at a local retail outlet, where CCTV footage captured the masked intruders breaking through a wall to gain access.

The suspects targeted only high-end smartphone brands with precision, methodically clean sweeping racks of valuable electronic gadgets. Police have commenced a detailed probe, meticulously examining the CCTV footage to identify the burglars involved.
In a curious twist, the thieves abandoned a large sack of stolen mobile phones on the roadside near the spot, managing to vanish with the remainder of the loot. Further evidence of their hasty retreat was found in scattered phone packaging in the backside shrubbery.
Local police, assisted by a scientific team, are actively pursuing all probable leads to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In another incident recently, Talcher police arrested seven members of a dacoity gang and seized over 120 mobile phones worth lakhs from their possession on December 1, 2024.
The robbery gang was on the prowl in the city and was involved in thefts, dacoities, and snatchings. Police had also seized a car, chilli powder, pistol, live bullets, billhook and other sharp weapons from them.
