A show-cause notice has been served to the former BDO of Shuliapada in Mayurbhanj district over the alleged irregularities in the transfer of Rs 11.53 lakh under the MNREGA scheme. It was alleged that during the tenure of former BDO Anupama Ghosh, a total of Rs 11,53,372 from MNREGA funds was allegedly misappropriated. She was served a show-cause notice on the 3rd of this month and was directed to respond within seven days.
Violation of MNREGA Norms Cited in Notice
The notice mentions that funds were transferred to a particular computer firm in violation of MNREGA guidelines and procedures. Notably, the same firm has an existing Vigilance case against it. The transaction was reportedly carried out without the knowledge of the block cashier and the head clerk.
Former Officer Asked to Justify Financial Decisions
Former Block Development Officer Anupama Ghosh was asked to clarify why disciplinary and legal action should not be taken against her for the alleged financial irregularities. As no response was received from her so far, the Mayurbhanj Project Director of DRDA has announced that a Committee will be constituted to investigate the matter further.
Committee to Probe Fund Transfer Validity, Says PD DRDA
“We will soon form a committee to look into this matter. The committee will be formed in a day or two and it will inquire into the transfer of funds to establish whether it was genuine. Based upon our primary doubts regarding the fund transfer, a show-cause notice was issued. But if the situation is otherwise, then she can present us the procedure that were followed and clarify on what grounds the funds were spent. We had also questioned her staff, however, they could not provide any satisfactory explanation either,” said Dharmananda Behera, PD DRDA, Mayurbhanj.
