Expressing grief over the tragic death of a nine-year-old boy after falling into an open drain in Cuttack, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday sought an action-taken report (ATR) from the district Collector and the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) commissioner.
The rights body has asked the collector and the CMC Commissioner to submit the action-taken report in four weeks.
Earlier on Sunday evening, a 9-year-old Joseph Sahani, a class III student of Modern Public School, died after falling into an open drain at Bidanasi in Cuttack.
Joseph had stepped out of the house for flying kite without informing anybody at home. He fell down in the open drain when his family members were watching television.
On Tuesday, residents of the locality including the family members of the deceased mobbed the CMC Mayor and the Commissioner demanding compensation and transfer of the junior engineer.
