Minor boy dead, boatman missing after boat capsizes in Brahmani river in Kendrapara

A minor boy drowned to death after a boat carrying as many as 30 passengers capsized in Brahmani river in Aul area of Kendrapara district on Thursday morning.

The boatman is still missing and efforts are on to locate him.

According to sources, the mishap took place when the ill-fated boat was on its way from Ekamania to Keradagarh of Rajnagar.

Ekmania panchayat is surrounded by river from all sides and residents depend on boats for daily transportation. 

When the first boat left the panchayat at around 6 am today, at least 30 passengers boarded it along with 8-10 bikes. After covering some distance, the boat lost control and capsized, sources informed.

Till the last report came in, the villagers have launched a search operation while the Fire Services team is yet to reach the spot.
