Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari on Thursday cut BJD MLA Arun Sahoo to size while replying to his query about so many RI and Amin posts lying vacant.

In the House, BJD MLA Sahoo wished to know the number of RI and Amin posts lying vacant across the state, without knowing that he was painting himself into a corner.

Revenue Minister Pujari sarcastically replied that the vacant posts have been inherited from the previous BJD government.

“I have known Arun Sahoo for almost half a century. He has been elected to the Odisha Assembly more than once and discharged his duties as minister of several departments. He is an experienced person. The issue he raised has also been disturbing me. Why so many vacancies? I haven’t created these vacancies. They have been inherited from the previous government,” replied Pujari.

He also clarified that the Odisha Sub-ordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSSC) has been asked to make appointments in vacant posts by conducting examinations.

He also took a swipe at the BJD over its distribution of pattas among landless people.

He said the previous government had distributed pattas like leaflets. The landless people have received pattas but not land. Nothing has been done except for patta distribution. There are cases where sons have yet to get land against the pattas their father received.

“Our government has started a survey to trace such people. Those who have pattas will get land. Within five years, everything will be solved,” said the Minister.
