A major fire broke out at the LIC office in Berhampur's Khodasingi on Monday morning, triggering panic in the area. The blaze erupted on the third floor of the building is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. Fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and launched efforts to contain the flames.
According to reports, the fire was detected at around 9:00 am. Three teams from the Fire Department reached the site and struggled to bring the fire under control. This office is reportedly the zonal office of LIC. The blaze broke out in the third-floor section where crucial paperwork was stored, and the fire was described as massive in nature.
Security guards present at the premises immediately alerted their authorities, following which the Fire Department was informed. Firefighters continued to battle the flames at the time of reporting.
Extent Of Damage Yet To Be Assessed
The exact extent of the damage is yet to be assessed. However, as the affected section housed important papers and computers, heavy losses are suspected. Reports also suggest that the second floor of the office may have sustained damage, with concerns that the computer section located there could also be affected.
