In yet another brutal act of violence, Maoists allegedly killed two individuals in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district — bordering Odisha’s Malkangiri — on Sunday, suspecting them to be police informers.
According to sources, the victims include a former Maoist who had surrendered earlier and a local villager.
It is believed that the Maoists have deliberately murdered the duo to create fear among the locals, sources informed, adding that the Ultras have killed at least five persons within a week in the region, suspecting them to be police informers.
Meanwhile, police teams have reached the spot and launched a detailed investigation.
Though security forces have set up several camps, Maoists are reportedly organising kangaroo courts and harassing the locals.
The killings come at a time when the security forces have been stepping up operations against Maoist groups in the Bastar region, prompting heightened retaliatory attacks by the rebels.
Operation Black Forest: Major Blow to Maoist Stronghold
Between April 21 and May 11, security forces carried out Operation Black Forest—a 21-day offensive targeting Karreguttalu hills on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border. Involving over 24,000 personnel from several security forces such as CRPF, CoBRA, STF, and DRG, the operation eliminated 31 Maoists, including senior commanders.
Abujhmarh Encounter: Top Maoist Leader Neutralised
On May 21, security forces conducted a major encounter in the Abujhmarh forest of Chhattisgarh—part of Operation Kagar. The operation claimed the life of Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavaraju, the general secretary of CPI (Maoist) with a bounty of Rs 3.5 crore, along with 27 other Maoists.
