A man was left battling for his life after he was brutally attacked by his neighbour following a clash over an alleged illegal encroachment of government land in Ramchandi village under Banki police station limits in Odisha's Cuttack. The incident took place on Monday.
Neighbour Questions Encroachment, Attacked in Retaliation
The injured, Santosh Kumar Sahu, sustained a severe neck injury after he was attacked by Kalu with a sharp weapon. Initially rushed to Banki for medical attention, he was later shifted to SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack due to his critical condition. According to reports, the conflict began when Santosh questioned Kalu for allegedly encroaching on government land. Kalu, in response, entered into a heated argument with him and subsequently attacked him in a fit of rage.
Victim’s Brother Recounts Assault Incident
Recounting the incident, the victim’s brother said, “He had brought a truck loaded with filling soil and tried to level the govt land. When my brother and I tried to stop him, he started to use abusive language and yell at us. While we were returning, he attacked us and hacked my brother. When I tried to intervene and protect my brother, his wife alerted him and asked him to hack me as well. When he was approaching me, I ran away from the place.”
Police Launch Manhunt for Accused
Banki police have launched an investigation into the matter and have begun a manhunt to apprehend the accused. The incident has sparked concern among villagers, with locals demanding strict action against those who take the law into their own hands.
