A brutal case of domestic violence ended in murder after a man allegedly killed his wife in Bhadrak district’s Parapokhari village. The victim, Gurubari Jena, was reportedly attacked multiple times with an axe by her husband, Gopinath Jena, following a long-standing family dispute.
Gopinath, a resident of Adhua area under Basudevpur police limits, had married Gurubari as his second wife. The couple had been embroiled in constant quarrels for years, according to family members.
Abuse And Threats Over Money Alleged
Gurubari’s daughter accused her father of repeated violence. “My father always used to fight with my mother over money. Recently, the situation escalated so badly that he nearly strangled her to death. It was only when my younger brother pleaded with him that he let her go. But last night, he ultimately killed her. He attacked her several times with an axe, causing serious injuries that led to her death,” she said.
The deceased's son, Balaram Jena, also alleged long-standing threats. “My father constantly threatened her for money. He said he would kill her if she didn’t give him money. He has another family and demanded money from my mother to get his elder son from that marriage married,” he stated.
Neighbours Discovered Body, Alerted Police
Neighbour Shusant Rout said, “We came to know about her death early in the morning and rushed to check. Sadly, she was already dead, with injuries all over her body. I informed the police immediately. He killed her because of ongoing disputes. It was a merciless and deliberate act.”
