Police arrested a person in the Dasapalla area of Nayagarh district on Thursday for allegedly raping his minor girlfriend on the promise of marriage. The accused, identified as Biswanth Kahanr, a resident of Lembugochha village, was also accused of betraying the victim.
As per reports, Biswanath, a daily wager, fell in love with the 14-year-old girl at a fair in Dasapalla. After having a relationship with the minor girl, he brought her home on the promise of marriage and kept her at home for ten months before driving her out.
Her father alleged that the accused forcibly took his daughter, but abandoned her in a forest. “Somehow my daughter managed to reach home and narrate her ordeal. We filed a complaint against Biswanth,” he added.
Nayagarh SDPO Snehasish Sahu said, "We received a complaint from a minor girl that she was raped by a person, in the morning. Based on the complaint, we have detained the person.”
Later it was learned that the accused was arrested and produced in court.
