Residents of Malkangiri have expressed strong dissatisfaction over the recent decision to prohibit the sale of petrol in bottles at fuel stations.
With only a limited number of petrol pumps available in the district, people are often forced to travel long distances to refuel their vehicles.
As a result, many locals rely on purchasing fuel from small roadside shops or vendors. However, following the government's sudden crackdown on this practice, locals fear they will face significant difficulties.
Residents argue that before implementing such restrictions, the government should ensure the establishment of an adequate number of petrol pumps across the region.
Notably, Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra called for a crucial meeting in this regard.
The meeting held discussions with officials from the department and representatives from petrol pump associations. The agenda focused on how to ensure proper fuel supply for farmers, boats, generators, and various types of machinery that require petrol or diesel.

According to the Minister, new guidelines will be prepared to streamline the distribution process while implementing the new restrictions.
The unchecked black market has contributed to a spike in horrific incidents in the state, where petrol and diesel are being misused for attacks and even self-immolation attempts, particularly targeting women, minors, and young girls.
