A major accident was narrowly averted after the Mahima Gosain Express (Sambalpur–Shalimar Express-20831) derailed on Thursday morning near Sambalpur City Station.
The mishap took place at around 9:22 am when the rear trolley of a general coach, located next to the guard van, went off the tracks while the train was moving at a very slow speed.
According to East Coast Railway officials, the train had just departed from Sambalpur City station at 9:18 AM when the derailment occurred on the Sambalpur City–Sambalpur section.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties reported in the mishap, sources said, adding that after a brief halt, the train resumed its journey towards Sambalpur.
Senior railway officials, including the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), promptly reached the site to oversee the situation. Restoration efforts were immediately undertaken to resume normal rail traffic on the route.
Railway authorities have initiated an inquiry to determine the cause of the derailment. Meanwhile, services in the region are being closely monitored to ensure safety and minimal disruption.
