Mahanga minor girl death: Suspended BJD leader Sarat Nayak, PET arrested

The girl student died on June 16 under mysterious circumstances and it is alleged that her body was disposed of in haste without post-mortem.

The police on Tuesday arrested suspended Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former Mahanga block chairman, Sarat Nayak in the sensational minor girl death case in Jagatsinghpur.

Nayak was reportedly arrested for hiding the body after death, destroying evidence and extortion.

Anupam Ray, Physical Education Teacher (PET) of the Gokan High School in Mahanga was also arrested by the police on Tuesday.

Informing the same, Cuttack Rural SP, Mihir Panda said, “We have conducted an inquiry and based on the evidence, we have registered FIR suo motu and arrested Nayak and Ray. Both the accused will be forwarded to the court.”

“Anupam Ray created such a situation that the minor girl was forced to end her life. That is why Ray has been arrested. And Nayak has been arrested because he knew that Ray was responsible for her death, so he tried to destroy the evidence against Ray. Nayak even tried to extort money from Ray by blackmailing him,” Panda added.

It is pertinent to mention here that Nayak also happens to be the President of Gokan school committee.

The matter came to light only after the audio of BJD leader and former Mahanga block chairman Sarat Nayak went viral. The audio is said to be the conversation between Nayak and the mother of Ray with whom the minor girl allegedly had some relationship.

The minor girl allegedly committed suicide after her family came to know about the relationship. In the viral audio, Nayak can be heard telling the concerned teacher’s mother that the body of the girl has been disposed of and the evidence destroyed without conducting the post-mortem on the advice of the police.
