In a bid to find a solution to the Mahanadi water dispute, representatives of both the Odisha and Chhattisgarh governments were present at the hearing of the Tribunal on Saturday.
Advocate General Pitambar Acharya reportedly represented the Odisha government in the case. The state government has informed the Tribunal about ongoing negotiations between Odisha and Chhattisgarh to reach a mutual understanding.
As per sources, the Tribunal has instructed both parties to provide a progress report on the negotiations by October 11. Discussions were reportedly held between the top officials of both states on Friday, and deliberations for a solution are continuing under the mediation of the Central Government.

In the last seven years, the previous government reportedly did not take any significant steps toward resolving the dispute. However, following the change in government, efforts for a settlement have gained momentum.
Advocate General Pitambar Acharya stated that no project will receive clearance from the Central Water Commission (CWC) if the water dispute remains unresolved.
Recently, the Chief Secretaries and senior officials of the Water Resources Department of both Odisha and Chhattisgarh conducted detailed discussions regarding the Mahanadi water dispute resolution.
"The way talks have gained momentum in this direction, we are optimistic that a solution will come out of it. Based on the facts, the Tribunal has instructed both parties to provide a progress report on the negotiations by October 11," said Advocate General Pitambar Acharya.
