Heavy rainfall activities continued in several parts of Odisha under the influence of the active low pressure that formed over northeast and adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal.
As per the prediction by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the low pressure will intensify further in the next 24 hours. Under its effect, several places in the State will experience heavy rain for the next four days.
IMD Regional Centre of Bhubaneswar has issued Red Warning alert for Boudh, Sonepur, Kandhamal, Bolangir and Kalahandi districts for heavy to very heavy rainfall up to 8.30 am today. Orange Warning has been issued to Nabarngpur, Nuapada, Sambalpur, Angul, Nayagarh, Cuttack and Ganjam.
Meanwhile, districts with Red and Orange warnings for heavy rain are put on alert. The Odisha Special Relief Commission (SRC) has reviewed the situation and asked the district Collectors to take all precautions measures.

Red Warning: Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) is very likely to occur over the districts of Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Boudh, Sonepur and Bolangir.
Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Angul and Ganjam.
Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Dhenkanal.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Nabarangpur and Ganjam.
Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nayagarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Cuttack and Angul.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bargarh, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh and Keonjhar.
Day-4: Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 16.09.2023 up to 0830 hrs IST of 17.09.2023:
Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada and Nabarangpur.

Meanwhile, the Hirakud dam authorities on Thursday ordered the opening of eight more sluice gates in view of the water level rising in the reservoir.
The dam is now discharging excess water from the reservoir through 10 gates. The water level at the dam was 628.71 ft till 6am today.
