The Low Pressure Area over the north Bay of Bengal is likely to move west-northwestwards and become ‘well marked’ during the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar predicted on Thursday.

The IMD has issued a Red Warning for some districts of the State till July 26.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD regional centre stated, “The Low Pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal persisted over the same region at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 24th July 2025. The associated cyclonic circulation extended up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and become a Well Marked Low Pressure Area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts during the next 24 hours.”

It is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards towards West Bengal and adjoining North Odisha coasts during the subsequent 24 hours, the IMD forecasted.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha.

Red Warning: (Take Action)- Extremely heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.

Orange Warning: (Be Prepared)- Heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapara, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

Yellow Warning: (Be Aware)- Heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Deogarh, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nabarangpur, Angul, and Puri.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Subarnapur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Rayagada.

For Friday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 25.07.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 26.07.2025)

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha.

Red Warning: (Take Action)- Extremely heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.

Orange Warning: (Be Prepared)- Heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur.

Yellow Warning: (Be Aware)- Heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur.
