At a time when the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) observed a six-hour bandh in Puri on Thursday, protesting against the death of a minor girl from Balanga in the district, the victim’s father has once again made an emotional appeal, urging all not to politicise his daughter’s tragic death.
Speaking to media persons, the grieving father said, “We are already in pain. Please don’t turn my daughter’s death into a political issue. Let us grieve in peace.”
He further said that the family is still trying to come to terms with the loss and does not want to blame anyone. “My daughter is gone. We don’t want to point fingers or get into accusations.”
His reaction came hours after BJD leaders and workers staged protests across Puri town, demanding justice for the victim. Shops and businesses remained shut in many areas due to the bandh.
Balanga Girl Death Case
The minor girl was reportedly attacked on July 19 near Bayabar village in Balanga when unidentified assailants allegedly poured a flammable substance on her and set her on fire in broad daylight. She was initially admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar before being airlifted to AIIMS Delhi on July 20 for advanced treatment.
Despite undergoing multiple surgeries and receiving intensive critical care, her condition remained precarious and she succumbed to her injuries on August 2.
However, in a shocking twist in the case, soon after the minor girl’s death at AIIMS Delhi, Odisha Police claimed that there was no evidence indicating the involvement of any other individual in the incident.
