While Cyclone Michaung weakened into just a low-pressure area on Thursday over Chhattisgarh, the resultant rain has left a trail of destruction in some parts of southern Odisha.
Incessant rain which began on Tuesday night and continued till Thursday morning, caused a landslide at Bariput under Koraput’s Narayanpatna block on Wednesday night.
The landslide has reportedly disrupted communication on the road. Fire fighters have reached the spot and work is underway to clear the road.
Meanwhile, a house was reportedly damaged at Kotia in Koraput due to landslide.
On the other hand, farmers in Gajapati district are in distress over crop loss due to unseasonal rain caused by the cyclone.
As per reports, incessant rains for the last three days have inundated farmlands in many areas in the district including Mohana and damaged the harvest-ready crops.
Despite prior warnings and micing by the district administration to take the crop to safer places before rains, many farmers could not complete the harvesting before time and suffered loss.

As per the IMD, light rain may continue to occur in some parts of Odisha on December 7. However, no warnings have been issued to any district.
Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has ordered an assessment of the damage caused by cyclone Michaung. He has written a letter to all the district collectors and directed the revenue and disaster management department to conduct a joint survey.
The SRC has asked the officials to visit the area by December 12 and submit a report. However, he has suggested excluding the areas of crop damage due to earlier floods from the survey.
