Commuters at Bhograi block in Balasore district faced a harrowing time as the drivers of Location Accessible Multi-modal Initiative (LAccMI) buses staged a protest demanding fulfillment of their six-point charter of demands.
According to sources, the drivers have resorted to protest after their long pending demands including fixing duty period to 8 hours and fixed day salary were allegedly not met by the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) authorities.
“Even after informing our problems to the authorities multiple times, no action has been taken to address our issues. Finding no other option, we have launched a strike. While we have demanded to fix out duty hours, they have threatened to take action against us,” said Narayan Prasad Behera, a protesting driver.
“We will continue our protest until our demands are not met,” Behera added.

Notably, as many as six LAccMI buses ply in the block offering a cheaper transpiration facility to hundreds of commuters in the district. Now, as the buses are not plying, the daily commuters are reportedly facing problems.
No comments from the concerned authorities could be obtained over the matter.
