Several girl students of Khallikote University are now up in arms over the change of rules that have been introduced soon after a new hostel superintendent took charge. Protesting the rule that no student can opt for coaching outside and all students should return to hostel by 6 pm, scores of inmates of Jhani Rani hostel staged a dharna on Saturday night.

“New superintendent joined recently and all of a sudden the rules, which were not changed since the past 10 years, have now been changed. We did not have any problem but as we were told not to go to coaching centres, we are against such decision. Had we got better teaching facilities at the University, we would not be forced to go for coaching classes,” said a hostel inmate.

Another student said that the authorities should allow to go to coaching and return to the campus by 6:30 pm. Apart from this, the students alleged that they are facing several issues in the hostel.

“The quality of food that is provided is of poor quality. The hostel also lacks proper sanitation and repair works. The condition of the toilets are very bad. We will continue with our stir till our demands are not met,” said another student.

Meanwhile, the superintendent and university authorities could not be contacted over the allegations levelled by the students.
