In a major boost to Odisha’s industrial growth, Keonjhar district is set to host the state’s second-largest steel plant. The announcement has sparked widespread joy among residents, who hailed it as the fulfillment of a long-cherished dream.
Several organizations and citizens’ forums from Keonjhar met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at the State Guest House on Thursday and extended their gratitude for facilitating the project. They also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Odisha government for making the long-pending demand of the district a reality.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Majhi said that setting up a steel plant in Keonjhar had been one of the oldest and biggest demands of the people.
This dream has now been realised due to the commitment of the double-engine government. With the support of the Centre, one of the world’s largest steel producers has come forward to establish the plant, CM Majhi said.
The upcoming steel plant is expected to bring massive industrial growth, create large-scale employment, and boost the economic landscape of Keonjhar and neighboring regions. Locals expressed happiness and optimism, saying the project will transform the district and provide opportunities for youth.
Expressing happiness over the development, Patna MLA Akhila Chandra Naik said, “The long wait is coming to an end. We are delighted as Keonjhar is all set to get a steel plant worth Rs 50,000 crore under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and CM Mohan Majhi.”
“The long wish of Keonjhar is going to be fulfilled. I would like to thank our CM. POSCO could not be able to set up a plant during the previous government, but now it is coming back,” said Telkoi MLA Fakir Mohan Naik.
Actor Asrumochan Mohanty said, “He may be CM for the State, but he is our brother. Under his leadership, all the dreams of his motherland will be fulfilled.”
