A case of ragging has come to the fore where a Class IX was allegedly beaten up by non-Odia students, leaving him seriously injured at Hadgarh-based Navodaya Vidyalaya in Keonjhar district. The teenage boy accused fellow students of trying to ‘kill him’.

The matter came to the fore after the victim narrated his ordeal to his parents who have lodged a written complaint with Soso police.

According to the complaint, the victim is a Class IX student in the Vidyalaya. He is being physically and mentally tortured by a group of non-Odia students. Despite repeated complaints to the principal, no action has been taken against the errant students.

Earlier, the miscreant students had attacked him, injuring his brain. He had to be admitted to a hospital and was back to school after treatment. However, they allegedly continue to harass and torture him, with no action by the school authorities.

Fed up with inaction by the school authorities, the victim’s parents have lodged a complaint with Soso Police.

“Ragging is going on unopposed in the school. I had even informed the principal about the ragging earlier. However, he did not take any action and solved the matter amicably. In one instance they attacked my son, injuring his brain. He had to be admitted to a hospital,” alleged the victim student’s father.

“Luckily, he survived after treatment. They have started ragging him again now. They have once again beaten him up and torn his mosquito net. They even tried to kill him, my son informed me. Despite repeated complaints, no action is being taken. So, I have approached the police,” he added.
