A second-year student of Government Engineering College in Keonjhar has levelled ragging allegations against the seniors. As per the allegation of the victim, he was subjected to physical torture by five seniors at the hostel of the educational institute.
As per sources, five seniors barged into the victim’s hostel room at around 02:30 AM and before he could understand anything they allegedly started thrashing him with sticks and rods.
The victim sustained severe injuries in the assault. Upon receiving the information, the hostel warden rushed to his rescue and admitted the victim to the District Headquarters Hospital.
If sources are to be believed, the reason behind this aggressive attack is likely to be the grudge against the victim as he had brought light into the matter of earlier attempts made by the senior students to rag the juniors.
Meanwhile, the family members of the victim student have registered a complaint with the police and held discussions with the college principal.
“Last night around 2:45 AM, my son was brutally attacked by his seniors and sustained injuries. After receiving his phone call, we arrived at the hospital and filed a complaint with the police. Our children are not safe there; we want security for our kids. The way my son got trashed, someone else might go through the same fate. We want safety and a better educational environment for them,” said the victim’s father.
The principal of the educational institution has assured of strict action against the seniors who were involved in the ragging. The anti-ragging committee of the college will hold the meeting and decide further actions, the principal said.
Saroj Kumar Sarangi, College Principal said, “The college disciplinary committee will take stringent action. We had a meeting regarding this and immediate actions will be taken. We will conduct further meetings and decide the next course of action.
