During a meeting of the District Electricity Committee, held at Zilla Parishad's conference hall, MP Baijayant Panda reviewed several welfare schemes of the government, notably the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and Mukhya Mantri Shakti Bikash Yojana. These initiatives aim to streamline access to electricity for rural communities.
The Parliamentarian emphasised providing electricity to rural residents more easily. On this occasion, discussions were held about low voltage and frequent power disruptions.
“MP Baijayant Panda presided over the review meeting. The pending works under different grid positions in the district, due to the ongoing rainy season, were discussed in the meeting. Apart from this, emphasis was laid on conveniently providing electricity to consumers. The committee also discussed ensuring Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana reaches out to people at the grassroots level,” Mahakalapada MLA Durga Prasan Nayak said.
MLA Durga Prasan Nayak, Kendrapara MLA Ganeswar Behera, as well as the Zilla Parishad chairperson Lilita Das, alongside senior officials from the electricity department, took part in the review meeting.
Development projects proposed for Kendrapara
Worth mentioning, earlier on April 28, the Kendrapara MP had held discussions on several key development projects in the district with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.
The discussions had centred on pivotal initiatives, including a logistics hub, a proposed barrage over the Luna River, a charitable multi-speciality hospital, and enhancing cold storage infrastructure in Kendrapara and Aul blocks.
A significant part of their discussions was on the proposed construction of a barrage on the Luna River to address the constant threat of flooding in vulnerable areas such as Gahagapat under the Garadpur block and Bisibilapat under the Kendrapara-Pattamundai block. This initiative aims to provide much-needed protection to these low-lying areas.
On the healthcare front, there was a focus on identifying land for a new charitable multi-speciality hospital, driven by a proposal from the Satya Sai Seva Samiti. This project is expected to significantly boost healthcare accessibility.
Other discussions included accelerating drinking water projects, the potential development of a logistics park, and establishing eco-tourism in Dangamala and promoting the Buddhist heritage tourism at Lalitgiri, sources from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.
The importance of filling several vacancies in government posts and further developmental measures in the district were also priority topics.
