On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, conjoined twin survivor Jaga had a rakhi tied on his wrist by his younger sister Subhadra. The emotional moment took place at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Phulbani, where Jaga is currently undergoing treatment.

Present at the hospital were Jaga’s father Bhuyan Kanhar, mother Pushpanjali Kanhar, and sister Subhadra. Jaga is reported to be in good health, eating, playing, and moving about normally, but is still unable to attend school.

He continues to wear a protective helmet on his head, and the family is awaiting another surgery to have it removed.

Jaga and his late brother Kalia, from Melupada village under Phiringia block in Kandhamal district, were successfully separated in a rare surgery at AIIMS, New Delhi, in 2017.

Sadly, Kalia passed away in November 2020 while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College, Cuttack.

“I tied Rakhi to my brother. We ate sweets and he gave me new dress,” shared an elated Subhadra.

"Yesterday, both brother and sister had been for shopping. Today morning, Subhadra tied a rakhi to Jaga. Both of them are very happy. We are only worried because he is not able to go to school. We are also worried about him being taken to Delhi,” stated his mother, Pushpanjali.
