The news of Odia CRPF jawan Sushant Khuntia’s death in the Naxal ambush in Jharkhand on Friday shattered the remaining hopes of his family which has already witnessed several tragedies in the recent past. It was only four months back that Sushant had tied the nuptial knot.
Though Sushant hails from Anandapur, his wife now stays in Telkoi. Their Anandapur house is currently locked. Sushant’s father had died recently. Sushant had also lost one of his brothers to cancer while his other brother, who was working in a private company, died by suicide a couple of years back.
The slain Odia jawan's mother is also reportedly not keeping well and she is now undergoing treatment at Bhubaneswar. Sushant’s sister is looking after his mother.
Under such circumstances, Sushant was the only ray of hope for the entire family. However, he too got martyred while discharging his duty. Sushant sustained a bullet injury in his chest after his team was attacked by the Naxals in Jharkhand on Friday.
His team was returning from a combing operation when the Naxals ambushed them. Two CRPF jawans, including Sushant, sustained injuries in the attack. Though both of them were shifted to Ranchi, Sushant succumbed to his injuries.
