Unidentified miscreants allegedly carried out a late-night robbery at a jewellery shop in Hatpada market under Kamarda police limits of Odisha’s Balasore district late last night.
According to reports, the incident occurred late in the night, when the entire market area was deserted. The robbers broke open the shutter of the jewellery store and looted gold and other ornaments under the cover of darkness.
The shop, located in the busy Hatpada area of Beldha, is believed to have been specifically targeted by the miscreants who may have planned the act in advance.
The owner of the shop discovered the break-in early in the morning when he arrived to open his store. The shutter was found forcefully tampered with and bent open, and the display shelves inside the shop were ransacked.
The exact value of the stolen items has not been confirmed yet, as a detailed inventory assessment is still underway. However, locals suspect that ornaments worth several lakhs may have been looted, given the shop’s reputed volume of trade.
Based on the complaint lodged by the shopkeeper, Kamarda Police have registered a case and begun investigation. A forensic team was called in to collect evidence from the crime scene, including possible CCTV footage from nearby establishments. Initial police suspicion points towards a gang of professional burglars familiar with the layout of the area.
Police also reportedly questioned local vendors and individuals nearby. However, no arrests have been made yet, and the identities of the culprits remain unknown.
