Well-known jatra (opera) artist Piyush Tripathy, landed in controversy for allegedly refusing to join the Singhabhini despite an agreement and having accepted lakhs as well as a car in payment.

The can of worms opened when the Singhbahini’s official YouTube channel posted about Tripathy being a part of their troupe starting next year. Reacting to the same, the actor took to his social media and posted a clip of himself denying the same.

Piyush Tripathy Shares His Side of the Story:

In his uploaded clip, Piyush Tripathy stated that there was more to the story than what Singabahini had posted, adding that the talks were neither entirely false nor entirely true. To clarify, he stated that while initially there were talks of him joining Singabahini, the deal did not materialise.

Further, he stated that there was a severe lack of understanding between the troupe owners and artists. "I want to make it clear through social media that as long as I am in Jatra, next year or even any of the following years, I will not be associated with Singhbahini. I was, am, and will continue to work with Surya Mandir," he said in his social media clip.

However, Singhbahini owner Sanjib Padhy has now accused him of backing out despite making commitments and agreeing to be a part of his troupe for five years. Additionally, he also alleged that Tripathy has taken a car and a total of Rs 55 lakhs, in cash and bank transfers as part of his agreement to be a part of Singabahini.

“I have completed evidence of him agreeing to the deals and accepting the money. He has also admitted the same in social media of which I also have proof. I called upon him and he stated that his relatives at Surya Mandir are forcing him to stay back but he will still join Singabahini,” added Sanjib Padhy.
