Massive protest in Puri
As political turmoil deepens in Bangladesh, reports have emerged that idols of Lord Jagannath and His sibling deities were set ablaze. This has led to massive protests in Puri.
As per reports, the Shri Jagannath Sena condemned the development and staged a demonstration in front of the Singhadwara (Lion’s door) of Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri on Thursday.
The members of the Shri Jagannath Sena demanded that Bangladeshi residents, Rohingyas and Muslims residing in India without proper documents of identification should be arrested immediately and driven out of the country.
“Devotees in different countries worship Lord Jagannath. However, we are noticing that the idols of Lord Jagannath and His sibling deities were set ablaze in Bangladesh. What is the reason behind it? What is the fault of Lord Jagannath,” asked Priyadarshan Patnaik, Convenor of the Shri Jagannath Sena.
Notably, violent demonstrators in Bangladesh are said to have vandalized Hindu homes and temples. For a long time, Bangladesh has had a reputation for targeting minority Hindus in violent attacks. Over the years, there have been frequent instances of violence against Hindus during festivals.
