Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Saturday expressed concerns over the rising rate of crimes in Odisha and said that police need to act on complaints immediately and win the trust of the people.

Speaking on the concluding day of the two-day Collectors’ Conference, CM Mohan Majhi urged the senior officials of Odisha Police to treat those coming to police stations, especially women and others properly and hear their grievances.

Odisha is lagging behind several states as far as conviction rate and other aspects are concerned. Hence, we should make quick reforms to move the state forward and cooperation is needed from all stakeholders, said CM Mohan Majhi.

Narrating an incident where a beggar visited his house and was not allowed by the security personnel, the CM said that he always makes it a point to hear the grievances of those people who are unable to walk or have any other issues.

“Several of them had visited the CM’s grievances cell several times but failed to meet the CM in the past. Now they are able to meet the CM. Their concern and only hope is to get work done and get justice. We should work to serve them. 16 years of record shows that in the CM’s grievance cell, the CMO is there, but is there any provision for the absence of the CM,” questioned CM Majhi.

Things have changed now, the CM and Ministers are hearing the grievances of people from 10:30 am to 6.

“It is a big thing. I am staying at Lok Seva Bhawan till 12:30 am. The PM is working 18 hours a day and we should not confine ourselves to 8-hour or 12-hour work. The state government will work round the clock for the people,” said CM Majhi.
