Tension flared in Odisha's Cuttack district as former members of the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) and local farmers staged a protest in front of the Salepur Block Agriculture Officer’s office. The agitation stemmed from allegations of irregularities in the recent formation of the ATMA Committee by the Salepur Block Agriculture Department.

Former ATMA Chairman, along with several ex-members and farmers, have demanded an immediate investigation into the alleged anomalies. They claim that the new Committee was formed bypassing due procedures and without transparency, raising serious concerns over fairness and accountability.

Holding placards and shouting slogans, the protesting group accused the agriculture department of favouritism and administrative lapses. They sat on a dharna, demanding action against those responsible and a fair reconstitution of the committee.

Biranchi Kar, former Committee member alleged, “There have been irregularities in formation of Committee and farmers have been neglected. Without taking farmers as members, the committee has been formed only to rehabilitate people with political links.”

Speaking on the matter, the current Block Agriculture Officer denied any wrongdoing in the formation process. He asserted that all procedures were followed as per official norms and guidelines. He further mentioned that the concerns raised by the protesters have already been reported to higher authorities for review.

Suryakant Sethi, block agriculture officer said, “They are alleging problems in selection process. However, it has been done as per government guidelines. I have nothing to say on the allegations.”

Despite the officer's clarification, the protesters have vowed to continue their agitation until a thorough probe is conducted and corrective action is taken.

The ATMA committee plays a crucial role in implementing various government schemes for farmers at the block level. Hence, any irregularity in its formation can significantly impact the distribution of agricultural benefits and resources.

The situation remains tense as stakeholders await a formal response from district-level agricultural authorities.
