Internet suspension extended in Bhadrak amid unrest following group clash; 27 platoons deployed
The Bhadrak administration has extended the internet suspension for an additional 12 hours in a bid to prevent the spread of misinformation and maintain public order. The restriction, which covers Bhadrak block and municipality, Dhamnagar block and NAC, as well as Tihidi block, will remain in place until 6 PM today.
This decision comes in the wake of heightened tension following the death of 32-year-old Santosh Parida, a resident of Tihidi, who was critically injured during a violent clash between two groups on May 30.
The altercation reportedly stemmed from a dispute related to cattle transportation. Later, Parida succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, sparking unrest in the region.
27 Platoons Of Police Deployed
To control the situation and avoid further escalation, Bhadrak police have deployed 27 platoons of security personnel across sensitive areas. Over 45 senior police officers are overseeing the security arrangements. Authorities have also confirmed the arrest of 12 individuals in connection with the violence.
Rs 10 Lakh Compensation
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the family of the deceased. Additionally, one family member will be offered a government job, and Parida’s three-year-old son will be provided with educational assistance.
Police have strongly warned against the circulation of rumours and provocative content on social media platforms. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with the administration and maintain peace.
“Strict action will be taken against anyone found spreading misinformation or disturbing communal harmony,” said Bhadrak SP Manoj Rout. The district remains under close surveillance, and authorities are hopeful that normalcy will be restored soon.
