Despite instructions to provide nutritious meals, students of Brahmapur High School were severed puffed rice (Mudhi) along with dal in the Mayurbhanj district's Betnoti block. It is for the past two days puffed rice is being served to students instead of cooked rice under the midday meal (MDM) scheme. Surprisingly, such an incident has been reported from the School and Mass Education Minister's district.
The incident has sparked widespread resentment among the parents and guardians and tension on the school campus. The parents have also brought the matter to the notice of the block education officer (BEO).
Though there is a provision to provide rice, curry, and other nutritional items under the midday meals, such deviation has not gone well among all due to the callous attitude of the concerned officials of the school.
The block education officer, on the other hand, assured appropriate action after a probe.
"There is no such provision. If the rice was exhausted, the headmaster should have made alternative arrangements. The headmaster should have also reported if the rice stock got exhausted," said BEO, Malati Tudu.
As per reports, students were given puffed rice on Friday and Saturday. Local residents alleged that the rice stock had reached the school on Saturday, but no step was taken to prepare cooked rice on the instruction of a teacher.
