A couple from Nabarangpur district has lodged a police complaint alleging that one of their newborn twins was stolen shortly after delivery. The incident has triggered tension in the Raighar area, with the family demanding a thorough probe and accountability from the authorities.

The complaint was filed by Rakesh Gond and his wife Kunti Gond, who are from Adipara village under Raighar block, at Umerkote police station. The couple stated that in June, during routine check-ups at the Umerkote Sub-Divisional Health Centre, the attending doctor had informed them that the sonography report indicated twin children. Based on this, the family was also provided free treatment facilities under a red card.

However, after the delivery on September 3, the family was given only one baby, raising questions about the whereabouts of the second twin. They have alleged that the newborn has been stolen.

Family Expresses Grief

Speaking to reporters, Kunti Gond said, “During my check-ups, the doctor told me I was carrying twins. But after the delivery, we were given only one baby. We want to know what happened to our other child.”

Her husband, Rakesh Gond, added, “We expected twins, but only one baby was given to us. I do not know what happened to the other child. I want the hospital to return my baby, which is why I filed the police complaint.”

Authorities Yet to Respond

While police response to the allegation is still awaited, Nabarangpur Chief District Medical Officer said no such complaint had reached their office and declined to comment further on the matter.

The case has drawn attention locally, with villagers awaiting clarity from health officials and police on the couple’s claim of child theft.
