“On the pretext of modernity, some women in Bhubaneswar are consuming alcohol and becoming vulnerable in the process. If anybody misbehaves with them under the circumstances, who will be responsible for it?” questioned social worker Jayashree Mohapatra.
As per a survey report, 30.2 per cent of people including 22.7 per cent from the urban areas in Odisha are consuming alcohol. However, the increase in the number of women consuming alcohol has become a matter of concern. In comparison to the national average of 1.6 per cent, 4.3 per cent of women are consuming alcohol in Odisha. As per health experts and social workers, awareness is required among the people in this regard.
