India registered a resounding victory by an innings and 141 runs against hosts West Indies in the opening Test of the two-match series.

Promising batter and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered an impressive knock of 171 runs. Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also made a significant impact in the emphatic victory by taking an impressive total of 12 wickets.

India hold the top position in the ICC Test team rankings currently with a rating of 121 points. World Test Championship (WTC) Final winner Australia follow India closely and are currently on the second spot with 116 points in their kitty. Australia are currently engaged in the ongoing Ashes series against arch-rival England.

Australia are leading the five-match series 2-1. They have the chance to surpass India and claim the top spot. Despite India’s current success, their chances to retain the top spot is not guaranteed, even if they secure a 2-0 victory against West Indies.

If the second Test between India and West Indies ends in a draw, Australia must win the Ashes series with a minimum margin of 3-1 to topple India from the top position.

Moreover, if India manage to defeat West Indies by a margin of 2-0, Australia will be required to secure a minimum margin of 4-1 against England in order to topple India from the No.1 spot in Test ranking.
