Relentless rainfall over the past three days has severely affected normal life in Laxmipur block of Koraput district, sources said on Wednesday.

According to sources, low-pressure-induced heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc in the Laxmipur block of Koraput district, Odisha. The region has been lashed by continuous downpours for the past three days, causing a flood-like situation in many areas.

The situation turned critical when a temporary bridge was completely swept away by strong water currents, disrupting vehicular movement and transportation.

A diversion road near the under-construction Jabangarh bridge—which connects the block headquarters of Dasamantapur block—has been submerged under water flowing over five feet high. As a result, five panchayats in the region have been completely cut off from the block headquarters.

The continuous rise in water levels has triggered flood-like conditions in several places. Roads have turned into streams, making travel impossible.

Vehicles remain stranded on both sides of the submerged roads, awaiting clearance and access.

Local administration is closely monitoring the situation, though connectivity restoration may take time if rainfall continues.

“A temporary bridge was washed away by floodwaters, cutting off access to key areas and leaving vehicles stranded on both sides of the submerged diversion road,” some locals said.

No comments were received from administrative officials in this regard.

Worth mentioning, due to persistent rainfall caused by the low-pressure system, a landslide had occurred in the Koida mining region of Sundargarh district late Sunday night. The incident, which occurred near Toda along the Rajamunda-Koida stretch of the national highway (NH-520), had severely impacted traffic movement.
