Locals of Palaspal panchayat under Keonjhar’s Harichandanpur block have a hard time availing basic health services during the rainy season, thanks to the absence of a bridge over Musala river.

While the demand for a bridge is not new for this part of the State, the matter came to the fore after two pregnant women had to bear the brunt of government apathy for five straight hours recently.

As per reports, they not only had to walk for two kms and cross the Musala river in order to get to the nearest possible spot where a vehicle can reach, the ambulance itself arrived five hours late after the call.

The locals alleged that no vehicles including the ambulance can reach the village during the rainy season owing to the absence of a bridge over the river.

“We do not have any facilities here. Pregnant women and other patients face a lot of hardship to go to hospital. We need a bridge over here to help people cross the river,” said a local of Palashpal.

Recently, a report surfaced where the residents of Mundasahi in Talapada Panchayat under Keonjhar’s Telkoi block have to brave the rapids of Samakoi River in order to reach the other side even for basic amenities like Anganwadi centre and a community health centre.

Despite repeated requests from the locals, a bridge over the Samakoi river has turned into a distant dream for the locals.

Meanwhile, the district administration officials could not be contacted over the matter.
