As the low pressure over the Bay of Bengal turned into depression on Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning to fishermen along the Odisha coast.
As per the IMD, the depression may intensify into a deep depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast on November 16. Subsequently, it would recurve northnortheastwards and reach Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast on November 17.
Speaking about the depression, IMD Director General, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said, "The depression was centred near south Bay of Bengal. It is gradually moving towards north-northwestwards.It will turn into a deep depression over the west-central BoB near Andhra Pradesh coast by tomorrow. It will then recurve towards West bengal and Bangladesh coast on November 17."
However, the system will pass the BoB near Odisha coast on the morning of November 17. Under its influence, heavy rainfall may occur in almost all the coastal districts of Odisha on November 16 and 17. Apart from that the wind speed may reach to 50-60 kmph on November 17 and the sea condition will be very rough from today till November 18. So the fishermen should not venture out to the sea till November 18. And those who are in the sea, should return to the coast by this evening.," Mohapatra said.

Squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is very likely over Westcentral Bay of Bengal.
November 16-17:
Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is likely along and off Odisha coast, and 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal.
November 17-18:
Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is likely along and off Odisha coast and 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea during the above mentioned dates to the respective regions. They should return to the shore as soon as possible, said IMD.
Bhubaneswar MeT Centre informed that a yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for several Odisha districts. Three districts of the state- Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, and Puri are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall under the influence of the system.
