According to sources, Odisha politics has heated up following remarks by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Bhakta Das, who called for a ‘no-confidence’ motion against the BJP-led government in the State. During a press conference, Das urged the BJD to support the move if it is truly serious about women’s rights and justice.
The PCC chief said, "If the BJD is genuinely fighting for women's justice, it should bring a ‘no-confidence’ motion against the BJP in Legislative Assembly. We will support it. If not, the Congress will initiate the motion and expect BJD’s support.” His direct challenge has triggered widespread political discussion across party lines.
Responding to the Odisha Congress president's comments, BJD Vice-President Debi Prasad Mishra clarified that no official notification has yet been issued in the Assembly regarding such a proposal. He reiterated BJD’s long-standing commitment to women’s welfare and said that any decision on a no-confidence motion would be taken collectively in the party’s legislative meeting once a formal notification is made.
Meanwhile, the BJP dismissed Congress's move, claiming that the party lacks relevance in Odisha and is merely seeking political mileage by aligning with the BJD. BJP MLAs argued that the Congress is attempting to stay afloat by manufacturing controversies.
“Congress has lost its ground in Odisha; hence, the party wants to open fire at the BJP using the BJD’s shoulders. Speaking otherwise, the Congress wants to walk with the help of BJD’s crutch,” Aska MLA Saroj Padhi stated.
The coming days are expected to witness more dramatic events as the Monsoon Session of the Assembly progresses and parties position themselves over the proposal.
