The Income Tax (I-T) Department is back in action in Odisha. After seizing crores of rupees in a major crackdown on liquor units, the I-T department officials have raided units linked to major coal trader and industrialist Ghanshyam Dalmia in Sundargarh district.
As per initial reports, the raids are being conducted in Odisha and Chhattisgarh for the second consecutive day. The raids are being conducted at several places- Sundargarh, Rourkela, Rayagada, Rajganjpur, Bargarh in Odisha and Raipur in Chhattisgarh.
The factory of Ghanshyam Dalmia at Sundargarh’s Gopalpur, the office, and the factory of Dalmia’s brother in Bargarh are being raided by the I-T department. Around 100 officers are carrying out the searches on Ghanshyam Dalmia’s properties. He was involved in the coal and transport business for a long time.
As senior I-T departments are involved in the search operations, it is expected that some major revelations will be made shortly. So far, no information has been shared on the seizure made during the I-T raid. The raids are being carried out over allegations of tax evasion and other aspects.
As per available information, the raids are underway in Rourkela. Sources said searches are also continuing at the residence and office of Nandkishore Agarwal at Uditnagar and two other places linked to Dalmia at Civil Township and one other place in Rourkela.
