A hunter lost his life in an alleged case of an accidental gun misfire in the forests of the Gajapati district. The deceased has been identified as Harishchandra Bhuyan from Sindhiba village.

Sources reported that the man had embarked on a hunting trip with a few local youths in the forested area near Kunkunipada Sahi village. Bhuyan reportedly discharged a bullet from his country-made firearm accidentally during preparations for hunting, leading to his untimely death.

Lingering questions:

Locals found Bhuyan’s body near a hillside, along with the firearm and remaining ammunition, following which they informed the police. Meanwhile, family members of the deceased were left questioning the nature of the incident and the deceased’s procurement of a firearm.

“He is a simple man. I am unable to comprehend how he obtained a gun. Moreover, I cannot even think of foul play as he should not have any enmity, given his kind nature,” stated the deceased’s sister, Drupati Bhuyan.

The wife of the deceased also levied similar questions regarding his procurement of a gun and stated he had left the house claiming he was going to procure rations.
