Enhancement of Skill Ecosystem

During President Tharman Shanmugaratnam's state visit to Odisha, one of the key areas of focus is the enhancement of the state's skill ecosystem. The Institute of Technical Education Services (ITEES) from Singapore will provide enhanced support for the expansion of the World Skill Centre in Bhubaneswar. This centre will be developed in various areas such as hospitality, food, and other vocational skills, aiming to improve the employability of the local workforce.

Economic Development and Collaboration

The visit is expected to boost economic development in Odisha through several collaborations. President Tharman will meet with the Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, to discuss Odisha’s economic strategies and opportunities. A business delegation from Singapore will also accompany the President to explore potential collaborations in skills development and other areas of economic growth.

Additionally, the visit will see the signing of eight Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) focusing on skill development, which will further strengthen the bilateral ties between Odisha and Singapore.

Cultural and Industrial Exchanges

President Tharman's visit will also include interactions with various cultural and industrial entities in Odisha. He will visit a vaccine manufacturing plant run by Bharat Biotech, reflecting the collaborative efforts in the healthcare sector. Moreover, he will explore Odisha’s cultural heritage by visiting several significant sites, which will help in fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation between the two nations. These exchanges are part of the broader effort to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Singapore-India diplomatic relations and to enhance mutual cooperation.

Support in Green Energy and Infrastructure

Singapore has expressed its commitment to supporting Odisha’s developmental journey, particularly in areas such as green energy and infrastructure. The Singapore High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, had earlier discussed ways to cooperate on ports, tourism, and green energy with the Chief Minister of Odisha. These discussions indicate a long-term strategy to enhance Odisha’s infrastructure and sustainability initiatives, aligning with Singapore’s expertise in these areas.

Empowerment of Local Communities

The visit also aims to empower local communities, especially women, by improving their skills for better job opportunities. The Singapore High Commissioner had discussed potential collaborations in the tourism sector and skills development for Odia women, which aligns with the broader goal of economic and social empowerment in the region.
