In an exciting development for hockey enthusiasts, Hockey India has announced that admission to the ongoing Hockey India League (HIL) matches at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela will be free.
Spectators can now enjoy the matches from the North, South, and East galleries without paying anything for tickets starting today.
This initiative, declared by Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey, is aimed at enhancing the viewing experience and promoting the sport. The decision regarding ticketing for the finals remains pending.
“The entry into the stadium has been made free and there is no need to buy tickets or carry passes. The Hockey India decided to make three galleries- east, north and south free other than the west gallery for the league matches,” Tirkey said.

“However, no decision regarding the final match has been taken yet. We will take a call soon,” he informed.
Notably, the men’s HIL has kicked off in Rourkela, with Phase 1 spanning from December 28 to January 18, where all eight teams will play against each other once.

Phase 2, beginning on January 19, will see the teams divided into two pools: Pool A (Delhi SG Pipers, Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers, Soorma Hockey Club, Vedanta Kalinga Lancers) and Pool B (Gonasika, Hyderabad Toofans, Tamil Nadu Dragons, UP Rudras). Each team will face others in their respective pool, with the top four teams advancing to the Semi Final on January 31.
