Hirakud dam authorities, on Saturday, opened eight more sluice gates of the reservoir as water level of the dam continues to increase following rainfall in the upper catchment areas.
At present, the excess floodwater is being released through 20 gates of Hirakud dam.
While the inflow into the dam stands at 4,88,624 cusecs, 3,02,189 cusecs of water is being released through the dam. The water level of the reservoir stands at 621.06 ft.
Similarly, the Mandira dam is also releasing excess water through 11 gates resulting in a rise in the water level in Sankha and Brahmani river.
On the other hand, though the floodwater in several areas in Paradip’s Kujanga has receded, but people are still struggling as several parts are still inundated.
Meanwhile, the flooding has caused extensive damage to crops in hectares of land in Paradip, leaving farmers in the lurch.
Similarly, the residents of three panchayats in Bhadrak district have been cut off from the rest parts since the last two days after a 40-foot-long breach was developed in Salandi river near Talagopabindha Padasahi area.
Two breaches have also developed in Domani Mahara and Mankada Kola areas in the district leaving several villages marooned. The Water Resources Department officials are taking measures to repair the breaches, sources said.
