Vehicles submerged in Rourkela railway station parking
Cars, bikes and auto-rickshaws were left submerged as heavy rain lashed Rourkela city on Sunday night, causing severe waterlogging across several areas.
The station area, along with nearby slums and low-lying regions, was left inundated due to the incessant downpour accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
Smart Station Parking Area Completely Waterlogged
One of the worst-affected areas was Parking Spot No. 5 of the railway station under the Smart City project, where water accumulated up to waist height.
The parking zone was completely flooded, leaving vehicles, including cars, auto-rickshaws, and two-wheelers, half-submerged. As water remained stagnant for hours, several vehicle engines stopped working entirely.
Locals Pushed Vehicles Amid Breakdown Woes
People who had parked their vehicles in this area have been facing immense difficulties.
With no immediate access to repair shops and their vehicles refusing to start, locals and commuters were seen pushing their cars and bikes through the flooded streets in search of help.

Slums and Low-Lying Areas Also Affected
Along with the ‘Smart Station’ parking area, nearby slum settlements and low-lying parts of the city were also waterlogged. Residents struggled due to stagnant water entering their surroundings, adding to the hardships.
Heavy Rain Continues in Rourkela
As per the latest reports, heavy rain continues to batter Rourkela, raising concerns over worsening conditions. With the weather remaining unfavourable and no immediate relief in sight, residents remain on alert.
