As per sources, the four hottest places in Odisha are Titilagarh (38.5 Degrees Celsius), Jharsuguda (38.2 Degrees Celsius), Bolangir (38.0 Degrees Celsius), and Angul (37.7 Degrees Celsius). The places occupied second, fourth, sixth and tenth positions, respectively.
Odisha is currently experiencing intense heat, with temperatures reaching new heights at the start of March. According to forecasts by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the region could witness record-breaking heat likely to persist till the end of May.
Ongoing rise in temperature signifies an unusually protracted summer, with heat typically lasting four to five days in March now potentially extending up to a week or longer.
IMD regional centre in Bhubaneswar predicts an imminent increase in the Maximum (day) temperatures, with Bolangir, Titilagarh, and Jharsuguda already exceeding the 38-degree threshold. Western Odisha is facing temperatures considerably higher than usual for this time of the year, foreboding a daunting summer ahead.
Predictions by IMD regional centre head
“The Maximum temperature in most parts of Odisha could remain above normal during March, April, and May. However, in the Western Odisha, particularly in Bolangir, Bargarh, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh, the probability of heat is more,” the IMD regional centre head Manorama Mohanty said to OTV.
