Heat wave hits Odisha: Bhubaneswar records season’s highest temperature

Bhubaneswar, the Capital of Odisha, experienced a surge in the day temperature, reaching 40.2 Degrees Celsius, the city’s first encounter with the 40-degree mark this year, official sources said on Friday.

Besides, Jharsuguda recorded an even hotter day, with temperatures rising to a blistering 43 Degrees Celsius.

Across the State, the rising mercury continues to impose utter discomfort. Sambalpur felt the heat with a temperature recording of 41.6 Degrees Celsius, whilst Hirakud was not far behind at 41.2 Degrees Celsius. Rourkela and Chandbali both reported temperatures of 40.4 Degrees Celsius.

Meteorological observers have noted these conditions as indicative of the intensifying heat wave conditions affecting the region. Residents are advised to take precautions to stay cool as the State braces for continued high temperatures in the coming days.

With no significant synoptic system lying in the region, dry weather prevailed over the districts of Odisha.

Maximum (day) temperature is very likely to rise by 2°C to 3°C during next 24 hrs and no large change thereafter over the districts of Odisha. Notably, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued Yellow Warning for some districts of the State for next 72 hours (till March 31).
